Bay FM 99.9 Byron Bay Radio

bayfm bay fm radio byron bayBay FM 99.9 ("almost perfect", as they say!).

Bay FM plays many roles including providing community servies, entertaining, educating and informing and friendship even.

"Totally volunteer powered, BayFM aims to provide independent community-responsive radio informing and entertaining locally & globally. The concept of Bay FM Community Radio, Inc. was first officially discussed in December 1987. A few years later after piles of paperwork, heaps of fundraising, and many mock broadcasts we had our first limited test transmission.

We have made community broadcasting history since then. Bay FM was the first community radio station to receive a "drop-through" licence. With the help of our political representatives, Byron Shire lobbied to keep us broadcasting at the end of our first long test transmission. That was ten years ago. Bay FM, in those ten years, has earned ten national awards for excellence in broadcasting. Three of those awards were in 2001. It was the first time that any one station has taken home three awards in the same year.

After ten years of continuous, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 10 national awards broadcasting, Bay FM was finally granted a permanent broadcast licence on 20 June 2002. Once again, making broadcasting history for the longest temporary licence in Australian history." - www.bayfm.org. lana henry and michael franti

Having recently received a grant from the Community Broadcasting Foundation for a satellite receiver service you can now access programs from anywhere on the Community Broadcasting sector and also send out programs. Bay FM can download news services such as the BBC or our own Community Broadcast news form Sydney. With the dish we are on line to the world!
